Observer Qualifications and Requirements

Knowledge

Submit current resume documenting proof of knowledge, experience and education
Have adept knowledge of quality school-age programs, policies, and procedures
Knowledgeable of local, state, and national guidelines and requirements in regards to school-age programs
Have adept knowledge of the Professional School-Age Associate (PSA) Credential assessment process

Education and Experience

The Observer must meet or exceed one of the following:

Option 1

  • Bachelors or advanced degree in elementary education/child development from an accredited institution
  • Two years experience working in an early childhood or school-age setting serving children ages 4 through 17 years
    • Experience working as a supervisor (or in a leadership role) directly with staff and children/youth in an educational setting
    • Experience working as an educator, teacher, or similar role with children in the same setting as intended to observe

Option 2

  • Bachelors or advanced degree from an accredited institution
  • Must have 9 semester hours or 36 CEUs related to child/youth development
  • Three years experience working in an early childhood or school-age setting serving children ages 4 through 17 years
    • Experience working as a supervisor (or in a leadership role) directly with staff and children/youth in an educational setting
    • Experience working as an educator, teacher, or similar role with children in the same setting as intended to observe

Option 3

  • Associates degree in elementary education/child development from an accredited institution.
  • Must have 9 semester hours or 36 CEUs related to child/youth development
  • Three years experience working in an early childhood or school-age setting serving children ages 4 through 17 years
    • Experience working as a supervisor (or in a leadership role) directly with staff and children/youth in an educational setting
    • Experience working as an educator, teacher, or similar role with children in the same setting as intended to observe

Option 4

  • An active Professional School-Age Associate (PSA) or Home Visitor Associate (HSA) Credential
  • Must have 9 semester hours or 36 CEUs related to child/youth development
  • Five years experience working in an early childhood or school-age setting serving children ages 4 through 17 years
    • Experience working as a supervisor (or in a leadership role) directly with staff and children/youth in an educational setting
    • Experience working as an educator, teacher, or similar role with children in the same setting as intended to observe
